It has never made sense to me that 10 year olds are expected to sit in their seats for hours at a time. Particularly boys. It just can’t be physiologically sound. Yes one can take attendance more easily and there is a sense of control, maybe even “socialization,” but the cost seems peculiarly high.
Nor is it obvious that teenagers do better at it. Surely this is a time for active hands doing projects, exploring the environment, having lab partners, building scenery, playing an instrument or measuring with one.
